Last week at St Mark’s

Here at St Mark’s we like to be a venue
for different artistic and cultural events.

Check out our Services and Events page for what’s coming up next week…

Another busy and eventful week here at St Mark’s.

We were very proud to host St Michael’s Prep School choir of 66 young people, aged between 9-12. They entertained us with their variety of songs, great harmonies and enthusiasm.

Thank you to Gordon and all the staff at the school, for bringing them to St Mark’s, and we hope to see them again, particularly as we share a special connection with them!

STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE’S MOUTH!

(An expression meaning that you hear something straight
from the person who has direct, personal knowledge of it.)

Whether you love reading, or are a writer, love all things Italian, this was the night for you.

Thursday evening in our Church Salone, we were treated to a fine evening on the creativity of an author’s work style, memories and influences, publishing deadlines and edits, and of course their latest book!

It started over a glass of wine and nibbles, as people milled around talking, followed by about 50 minutes of hearing from not one, but three British authors, living and working here in Italy. It was a delight to hear Gregory Dowling, who translated ‘Lover of no Fixed Abode’, Philip Gwynne Jones, ‘The Venetian Candidate’ and Tom Benjamin, ‘Last Testament in Bologna’ talk about their recent published work and the way in which all three tackle the writing process. People could ask questions and also buy the books, thanks to The Paperback Exchange, Via dell’ Oche 4, Florence, who brought along copies of the books. It ended with (more) wine and nibbles.

Thanks to everyone who came and of course to our three authors!

We hope to have more
‘STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE’S MOUTH’
evenings in the future.

We have a service of Choral Eucharist every Sunday
at 10.30 am
followed by refreshments after the service.

YOU would be very welcome.

All the passers-by stopped to hear their happy song
